Baltimore Ravens Exchange 5,595 Ray Rice Jerseys, Run Out Of Replacements

To say that the Ray Rice jersey exchange held by the Baltimore Ravens this weekend was popular with fans is perhaps an understatement. After all, with a line half a mile long to turn in Rice jerseys in exchange for jerseys bearing the names of other Ravens players, it’s no surprise that the team ran out of replacement jerseys at around 5,595 exchanges.

The team reportedly spent somewhere in the “six figures” on the trade-ins, reports CNNMoney, and had to hand out vouchers for replacement jerseys to 2,400 fans who went home otherwise empty-handed (for the time being, because that’s how vouchers work).

All told, more than 7,000 people showed up to the M&T Bank Stadium during the trade-ins on Friday and Saturday, a team spokesman said.

Rice was dropped by the Ravens after new footage surfaced of him striking his then-fiancee in an elevator in an Atlantic City Casino.

So what will happen to all those Rice jerseys? The team spokesman says the jerseys will be donated to a company that deals with scrap material.
