Uber’s Head Of Global Customer Support Steps Down

After hopping over to Uber from Amazon in January 2015, the head of the ride-sharing company’s global customer support operations, Tim Collins, is returning from whence he came: he’s stepped down from his job at Uber and is reportedly going back to Amazon.

According to a report from Recode’s Johanna Bhuiyan, Uber announced that Collins was no longer with the company in an internal email on Monday. He’ll be replaced by, Austin Geidt, Uber’s former head of global expansion.

The company’s customer service system has come under fire in the past from customers, who say they’ve had trouble reaching an actual human in times of great need, like when reporting sexual assaults, kidnapping situations, or other serious crimes.

Most recently, Uber ditched that often-reviled email support system in favor of an in-app tool for troubleshooting and reporting issues, saying response times will go down and customer satisfaction will go up.

“We thank Tim for his leadership in building out our global support teams and infrastructure,” an Uber spokesperson told Recode.
