If you like seeing Tweets on your timeline as they happen in real time, you’ll have to change your settings: after testing out an algorithmic timeline that shows users Tweets they might be interested in, the social media platform has quietly turned on that feature as the default option.
After announcing the feature in February as an opt-in kind of thing, it now appears that algorithmic feeds must be opted out of instead. Some users have reported seeing a notification to that effect over the last few days, letting them know that if they want their Twitter feed to show Tweets chronologically instead they’ll have to opt out of the new feature by changing their settings, The Next Web reports.
Others have yet to be notified of the change at this point, but it seems likely it’ll roll out to everyone eventually.
The Next Web notes that Twitter changed its FAQ about feeds on March 7, adding a new paragraph that the behavior has to be turned off, instead of turned on.
“Tweets you are likely to care about most will show up first in your timeline,” the page reads. “We choose them based on accounts you interact with most, Tweets you engage with, and much more. You can find instructions for how to turn off this behavior here.”
