Passengers on a JetBlue flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Orlando yesterday that hit extremely pretty bumpy air say the experience was “like a movie,” with turbulence strong enough to injure eight people.

JetBlue flight 1134 took off around 6 p.m. Monday night from San Juan, and “experienced turbulence while en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Orlando,” the airline said in a statement, noting that upon arrival in Orlando at 8:52 p.m., “medical personnel met the aircraft upon arrival to assist customers, and eight customers were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

One of the passengers on board called the moment turbulence hit horrible, telling WFTV that the “doors of refrigerators exploded.”

She said the cabin crew was in the middle of handing out drinks and snacks when the plane hit bumpy air. Passengers were asked to quickly buckle their seat belts, she said.

“The hostess ran to sit and went to the back, it was like a movie,” she told WFTV.” The belts were buckled and at that moment, the plane (experienced turbulence) and the oxygen systems came down.”

There seems to be a lot of rough air out there right now: just last week, seven people were sent to the hospital after an Allegiant plane hit extreme turbulence on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Pittsburgh.
