If you’ve ever looked around at your three friends and thought, “This just isn’t enough. We need some new blood,” then Tinder Social may be for you.
The dating company announced today that it’s branching out from setting up singles on dates to setting up groups for group dates. It could be a dating thing — you and two of your friends are single and ready to mingle, looking for same — or it could just be that your friends’ jokes have gotten stale.
“Often your best nights are when you’re hanging with friends, someone makes an unexpected connection with someone in another crew, and your two crews have an amazing time together,” the company wrote on its blog. “Maybe you spark a romantic connection. Maybe you make new friends. Either way, a good night out with your friends becomes something better.”
Here’s how it works:
1. Unlock the power: First, you have to unlock the Social feature before you can use it. Once you have, you’ll see your friends who’ve unlocked it, and they’ll see you.
2. Invite friends: Once you’ve got friends on Tinder Social, you can invite them to go out, forming a social group of the friends near you.
3. Set a status: There are preset options to choose from like Going on a pub crawl, checking out a concert, down to get drinks, etc. It’s unclear if you can tell people you’re planning to eat a lot of pizza while watching bad reality TV, however, or going on a Pokemon Go romp.
4. Get to swiping: Just like you would when looking for a mate, swiping right means “Yes! I’d meet you in person,” and swiping to the left means, “No thanks.”
5. Hope for the best: If your gang matches with another group, you’ll get a notification, and can begin celebrating amongst yourselves.
6. Plan your group date and go meet’em: Here comes the fun part — making decisions! Your groups will have one big chat to choose your own dating adventure or platonic gathering of strangers. Good luck with that.
