A company called GSI Outdoors is recalling about 6,700 kids’ insulated water bottles sold exclusively at L.L. Bean stores. Why? Because children shouldn’t be handling toxic lead.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the lead solder at the exterior base of the bottle contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children, and can cause adverse health issues.
The recall includes five styles of 13.5-ounce capacity water bottles with printed graphics: Dino Bones, Flower Power, Orange Grid camo, Purple Tie Dye Butterfly, and Robo Shark. They were sold for around $20 at L.L. Bean retail stores, online at http://www.llbean.com, and in L.L. Bean catalogues from July 2015 through May 2016 for about $20.
To find out if your kid’s water bottle is included in the recall, check the item identification number printed on a sticker on the bottom of the product. Recalled products will bear the item identification number 297684, as well as “PO#844” and “BB2D2-LLB-R45-0413.”
There haven’t been any reports of injuries or issues linked to the water bottles yet, but the CPSC is urging consumers to immediately stop using them, and contact L.L. Bean for a refund. You can do that by calling 800-555-9717 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET daily or by going online.
