It sounded like a great idea — free Domino’s pizza for T-Mobile customers every Tuesday. But just two weeks into T-Mobile Tuesdays, the company says Domino’s was overwhelmed by the demand, so it’s nixing pizza in favor of free Lyft rides for next week’s giveaway.
T-Mobile customers expressed their displeasure with the promotion this week, some reporting that the redemption codes for one free medium pizza weren’t working, that they were left with sub-par pizzas in the rush, and others who said that their local Domino’s simply ran out of their allotment of free pizza during the rush.
Making matters worse? Each line gets a free pizza — so a family could really swoop in and take a large share of any one location’s free pies, which some gleefully did:
T-Mobile CEO John Legere stayed positive on Twitter at first, encouraging folks to try another restaurant if their local spot was out of free pizza:
Last night, however, Legere announced that it was “time to switch it up,” saying that free pizza Tuesdays will now be free Lyft credit Tuesdays, with a credit good for up to $15:
He also noted that “OMG,” customer demand had overwhelmed Domino’s so much that the pizza chain decided it couldn’t handle the giveaway anymore, retweeting an internal email from Domino’s that said as much:
Starting next week, the T-Mobile Tuesdays offerings that are up for grabs include a free small Wendy’s Frosty, VUDU movie rental, Lyft ride up to $15, and $20 to spend at MLB.com.
