This morning, we predicted that a recall of potato, macaroni, and tuna salads from Reser’s might be the first of many if the source of potential contamination was their onion supplier. As anticipated, another packaged food containing onions has been recalled. Pictsweet announced today that they’re recalling two frozen vegetable mixes, pointing in turn to their onion supplier.
Listeria is a potentially serious foodborne bacteria that poses a particular danger of complications to very young children, elderly people, pregnant women, and people who are immunocompromised. Symptoms among healthy people include fever and muscle aches. Pregnant women might have a fever and fatigue, but the bacteria can infect the fetus and cause miscarriage or stillbirth.
While the first recall notice came from Schnucks and many news outlets have connected the recall with that supermarket chain, the affected vegetables were sold at different retailers nationwide. Stop & Shop and Tops have put out their own announcements, and other retailers that sold the affected vegetables will probably announce their own, too.
The recalled products are:
Pictsweet Seasoning Blend: Best by date 4/2/2018, 12 ounces
Pictsweet Steamable Spring Vegetables: Best by date: 3/19/2018, 10 ounces
If you have any questions about the recall or about vegetables in your freezer, contact Pictsweet at (731) 663-7600, extension 525. You can bring the bag back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund, or contact the company.
Stay tuned for more recalls that may include onions from this particular lot and supplier. Let’s hope that this is the last we hear about it, though.
