Marijuana-themed clothing is nothing new. All over the world, folks sport hats, shirts, leggings, and other apparel showing their affection for the plant. It’s less usual to see pre-teens and toddlers wearing weed-themed clothing, but Gilt shoppers seemed hungry to snap up this leafy dress for kids as young as two.
Consumerist reader Matthew spotted this dress — sold on Gilt.com by Poland-based retailer Mr. Gugu & Miss Go, which claims to “provide colorful, bold and sometimes provocative, high quality products for young individuals” — while checking out other items for sale on the site.
“For adults it’s one thing, but for kids?” wrote Matthew about the dress, which was sold for youngsters aged anywhere from two to 12 years old.
The dress, which is now sold out but still appears on Gilt.com, was made by Mr. GUGU & Miss GO, a retailer that claims to “provide colorful, bold and sometimes provocative, high quality products for young individuals.”
While we couldn’t find the exact Mary Jane dress on the retailer’s site, similar dresses in different, bold prints are still for sale.
Matthew says that he contacted Gilt.com to express his concerns about the dress, but feels he got little assistance.
He says a customer service rep for the company said they were sorry he didn’t like the leaf pattern on the dress and would bring it up with management.
During the conversation, he says, the rep said the company feels the dress is appropriate and “it’s just a plant.”
We reached out to Gilt.com, its owner Hudson’s Bay Company, and Mr. GUGU. We’ll update this post when we hear back from the companies.
