When you make a living driving people around, you’re likely to run into a bad customer or two, from a driver being attacked by a passenger to a rider commandeering and then crashing the ride-hailing vehicle. A Chicago Uber driver experienced a not-so-great night on the town last week, when someone attacked him and his vehicle.
ABC 11 reports that police arrested a 19-year-old woman after she allegedly hit an Uber driver and his car with a bat.
Police say the incident occurred when the Uber driver parked his car in an alley waiting for a fare to show up.
When a van driving through the same alley was unable to maneuver around the car, the occupants allegedly began arguing with the driver and spat inside the vehicle.
The woman then exited the van and allegedly struck the car’s passenger side mirror with a bat, police tell ABC 11.
The van then attempted to leave the scene, at which point the Uber driver tried to hold on to the vehicle. At that point, police claim the woman exited the van and hit the driver in the head with the bat before leaving the scene.
Authorities pulled over the van a short time later and the woman was arrested, charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage. The driver was hospitalized for head injuries, police say.
