We’ve all got dreams, but when it comes to getting hitched, many people just can’t afford to shell out the big bucks for everything they want on the big day. But one Utah woman says her dreams are now going to be realized due to the generosity of a complete stranger, who swooped in to buy her the perfect wedding dress.
The bride-to-be set out to find the right dress last Friday, reports the Deseret News, and soon had her sights set on one she couldn’t afford.
“I tried on the dress and I knew it was the one,” she said of the $480 gown. “It had everything I wanted. It was perfect.”
The price was a bit hefty for the full-time student, who’s the seventh child of eight. Her dad is unemployed, and there’s not a lot of money to go around to help with the wedding.
While she was at the bridal store, a woman approached the owner of the shop and said she wanted to do something nice for someone else. She’d been unable to find the perfect dress but wanted to make sure someone else could, so she left enough money with the owner to pay for any dress in the room, as well as instructions.
“She didn’t have a particular bride in mind and she asked me, ‘Which one of them could use the help?’ ” the owner said. “I said, ‘Are you sure?’ Because it’s just not the norm,” she added. “I’m still flabbergasted. I don’t know why she did it.”
The store owner told the bride-to-be the good news, prompting her to burst into tears.
“The fact there was somebody in the store watching me and seeing how much I loved the dress and taking the time. She didn’t even know me,” she said, adding that the stranger has an open invitation to attend her wedding May 1.
