On Monday morning we brought you the story of the McDonald’s worker in Minnesota who decided to trash the restaurant after being fired. While no one expects that young man to get his job back — or to get hired by anyone else in the near future — you might be surprised to learn that his boss has also been let go for failing to rein in the rampage.
WCCO-TV in Minneapolis reports that the overnight manager, seen in the below video trying to get the young man to stop wrecking the kitchen and leave already, was fired after five years on the job because of the incident.
He says ownership told him they didn’t like the way he handled things when the fired teen went wild. But the now-dismissed manager explains that because the ex-employee is a minor he didn’t want to physically restrain him.
“I feel like it was unfair because I did what I could. I mean, he’s 17 years old,” he tells WCCO. “I would be in jail as of right now if I would’ve put my hands on him. He’s a minor, so what was I supposed to do?”
The manager says he asked co-workers to call 9-1-1 to have police handle the situation, but by the time cops arrived the angry youngster was gone.
In a statement, the franchise owner says it is “inappropriate to publicly discuss personnel matters” but maintains that ownership “took the appropriate action to address the entire matter and not just what was seen on video.”
Meanwhile the no-longer-a-manager says he’s already been interviewing for other jobs and will be on unemployment until he lands elsewhere.
“Everyone’s talking about it, it’s like I’m the bad guy,” he says. “I did what I could.”
Once again, here’s the video (NSFW language) that got this whole mess started and has already been seen nearly 3 million times on YouTube:
