Since the new iPhone 7 became available on Friday, countless consumers have received the new devices — headphone bug and all, apparently.
Shortly after some users received their new phones, they discovered a bug in the included Lightning EarPods that turns off physical controls unexpectedly, The Verge reports.
The issue, owners say, occurs when the EarPods are plugged into the iPhone 7’s Lightning port for a few minutes, whether music is playing or paused.
At that point, the Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter and Apple’s Lightning EarPods automatically turn off physical controls, such as volume adjustment, Siri activation, or call answering capabilities.
The Verge reports that the issue doesn’t occur each time the EarPods are plugged in, and it’s unclear if the glitch affects third-party headphones.
Users found a temporary fix for the problems: simply unplug the EarPods and plug them in again.
A rep for Apple says they are aware of the issue and will fix it in a future software update.
