SuperValu, Key Foods, Better Valu Frozen Corn Recalled For Possible Listeria Contamination

Did you think that you were safe from listeria-laden frozen vegetables simply because we haven’t shared news of any in a few months? Not so fast, person who enjoys vegetables! Here’s yet another recall, this one for veggies sold at SuperValu, Key Food, and Better Valu stores under private-label brands. The product in question is frozen cut corn.

There have been no reported illnesses before the recall, and the bacteria was found as part of a North Carolina Department of Agriculture random-sampling program of food that had already been shipped to stores.

Listeria is a potentially scary foodborne illnesses: some healthy people have no symptoms at all, but it can turn into life-threatening meningitis in children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.

It also poses a particular risk for pregnant women, since the bacteria can be passed to the fetus through their bloodstream, causing miscarriage or stillbirth.

The potentially contaminated corn includes private-label products sold at these grocery stores:

  • 16-ounce bags with production codes of SWFF/R10312 (best by date of 4/11/18), SWFFR/10452 (5/09/18), and SWFF/R10609 (6/6/18).
  • 32-ounce bags with production code of SWFF/R 10482 (best by date of 5/10/18)

  • 16-ounce bags with production codes of SWFF/R10320 (best by date 4/11/18) and SWFF/R10405 (5/2/18)
