Next week, some folks will be standing in line for the new PlayStation VR headset, hoping to immerse themselves in a simulation of some fantastical video game universe. Those people will feel stupid when they check out your new rec room, complete with a former Delta flight simulator.
A former Northwest/Delta Air Lines training site in Minnesota has been purchased by the Minnesota Vikings NFL team, meaning — in the parlance of 1980s clearance sale TV ads — everything must go!
That includes, according to the website of the ongoing auction, nine full-size (presumably operational) flight simulators for a variety of jets, including the McDonnell Douglas DC-9, and the always classic Boeing 747.
KARE-TV reports that there used to be a lot more simulators at this location, which has sat unused since 2012. No, they weren’t pilfered by pesky trespassing teenagers looking to impress all the other kids at school. The others were shipped out to a different Delta training facility after the airline completed its acquisition of Northwest.
A rep for the auction house tells KARE that more than few folks have called to inquire about the for-sale flight simulators, though it remains to be seen if they are serious buyers or just looking to check out the merchandise in person to snap some awesome Instagram pics.
“This is unique,” says the rep. “These type of facilities nationwide, there aren’t a lot that exist in the country or even the world.”
So if you’ve got a vast warehouse just waiting to be filled with an authentic flight simulator for a commercial jet, do not let this opportunity pass you by. (Unless you can’t afford it; we don’t recommend anyone go into debt just to have the raddest rec room in town.)
