Yahoo To Stream One MLB Game Each Day For The Season

At this point, there’s no shortage of options for baseball fans to stream at least some MLB games for a fee, from MLB.tv subscriptions to the league’s agreement with Fox Sports to allow regional networks to live-stream games in-market. Now there’s another (free) player in the game as Yahoo announced it will stream 180 games this year.

Yahoo Sports will stream one MLB game everyday for the rest of the 2016 season, which officially got underway over the weekend.

Under the “Free MLB Game of the Day” program, all 30 MLB teams will have at least one game streaming on Yahoo during the first month of the season.

Mashable points out that when local broadcasters have TV rights to the games, Yahoo won’t be showing them.

Yahoo has already released the lineup for the first month of games, subsequent schedules will be released later.

This isn’t the first MLB-streaming news to make waves this year. Back in January, the MLB announced it would offer in-market streaming starting with the 2017 season. However, the deal means that if your favorite team is local, you’ll still have to have cable.

By the start of the 2017 season, MLB and any local sports channels owned by DirecTV, Comcast, or Fox are to allow for in-market streaming. Meaning if you’re a Royals fan who can’t make it home for the game, you’ll be able to watch it online… IF you’re also a paying subscriber to a pay-TV provider that carries that particular network.

The move was bad news for cord-cutters who just want to watch their local games online and are even willing to pay for it. In some markets, the PlayStation Vue live-TV streaming service includes regional sports networks, which may be a way for cord-cutters to watch their favorite team. But in terms of pricing, PS Vue is not that different from basic cable.
