Last month, Google announced that it would provide users with the ability to hail a ride from services like Uber and Lyft when searching for direction inside Maps. Now, the company is taking that idea and expanding it to food delivery: adding the option for users to order food when searching for restaurants on the Maps app.
Business Insider reports that a recent update to Google Maps provided users with the ability to place orders with local restaurants that use on-demand meal delivery services like Grubhub or Seamless.
The option works when a customer searches for a restaurant on Google Maps. If the restaurant works with a preferred delivery service, the search results will show a “play and order” option.
Like the integration of ride-hailing services, when a user taps the “place an order” space, they will be prompted to continue their order with the on-demand delivery service’s app.
