AAA Would Like To Remind You Not To Use Pokémon Go While Driving

While it might seem obvious that you shouldn’t have your phone in front of your face for any reason while you’re operating heavy machinery, AAA would still like to remind all those Pokémon Go players out there to keep their eyes on the road and not on the app.

The virtual game could quickly turn dangerous in real life if you’re trying to hunt Pokémon on the go, AAA said in news release (via WSNV).

“Trying to catch a Pokémon while behind the wheel is a major distraction and increases your risk of causing a crash,” spokesman Josh Carrasco says. “Just one quick text or glance to see the next Pokéstop could end up costing you or someone else their life.”

AAA says more than 600,000 motorists use a phone while driving in the U.S., tempted by the distractions of texting or using social media. And while you might think taking a peek at the Pokéworld won’t take long, it’s just as bad as those other distractions, AAA says.

“Playing games like ‘Pokémon Go’ while driving is a distraction just like sending or receiving a text while behind the wheel,” said AAA Public Policy Manager Karen Morgan. “Unfortunately, it’s hard for law enforcement officers to crack down on distracted drivers.”
