Wayfair Now Offers To Send You An Electrician When You Buy Light Fixtures

Taking a page from Amazon, Yelp, Google, and Facebook, online retailer Wayfair is ready to play matchmaker with customers, connecting them with professional service providers when they buy a product on the site. 

The online home goods retailer announced Tuesday that it had partnered with online service provider listing site Porch.com to connect customers with professionals offering installation and assembly services through its latest venture, Porch Retail Solution.

Through the service, shoppers who need a bit of help with tasks like furniture assembly or light installation, among other things, can purchase services before they check out.

Once they place the service in their cart, they’ll be able to set an appointment with the professional service provider.

The companies used to complete jobs through the Porch Retail Solution will be local to customers’ geographic area and are backed by the Porch Guarantee, which states that if customers are not happy with the quality of the work, the company will make it right.

For now, the service is available in 15 markets, including Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Houston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Phoenix, Orlando, Denver, Austin, San Bernardino, CA, and Raleigh. The company says it plans to expand the service to 25 more markets in the next month.

“At Wayfair, we pride ourselves on a customer service-driven retail experience, and with this Porch.com partnership, we are able to offer services that further enhance the shopping experience and make home decorating and renovation easier for our customers,” Steve Oblak, senior vice president and general manager for Wayfair, said in a statement.

Wayfair and Porch are just the latest companies to dip their toes into matchmaking game between customers and service providers.

In 2014, Amazon launched Local Services which shows customers who purchased items such as ceiling fans with offers from local businesses that can install the products.

Last December, Facebook began testing a service that showed users dedicated pages for highly-rated professional service providers.
