Microsoft Store Will No Longer Accept Bitcoins As Payment

If you liked using Bitcoin to pay for apps in the Microsoft Store, we’ve got some bad news for you: the cryptocurrency is no longer a valid payment method.

The change includes “Windows 10 and Windows 10 mobile,” according to Microsoft’s update support page for the Microsoft Store (via Engadget).

If you’ve got an existing balance, you can still use those bitcoin to buy apps, but Microsoft isn’t refunding those balances, and you can’t use bitcoin to top them up either.

It’s unclear if the change applies for Xbox users as well.

The Verge notes that Microsoft started accepting Bitcoins just a year ago as a payment method for Xbox games and Windows apps. You could fill your Microsoft account with the digital cryptocurrency and then use it in the Windows and Xbox games, music, and video stores.
